As the seasons change, it is important to make sure your horses are staying hydrated. Fall and spring here in Montana can be dangerous times of year due to the large temperature fluctuations – sometimes 80’s by day and 30’s at night. High temperatures during the day heat the horses up and although they may drink some, they stand around trying to stay cool. Then, as the temperatures drop 30 to 40 degrees at night, horses get sluggish and stop drinking.
Give them the pinch test for hydration.
Check their tongues for white film or pale color.
Have some emergency colic acupressure points to use while waiting for you vet to arrive if there are signs of trouble.
There are also some colic relief supplements you can give while waiting for the vets as well – talk to your vet or alternative therapy professional for your options.
Shorter days and cooler nights are upon us again. As seasons change, so do our horses. Help your horses deal with these changes by getting some Fall TCM assistance from your acupressure practitioner. Things you might notice if there is an imbalance in during this season:
* He exhibitis excessive worry when his pasture mate is taken away or over-thinking while working
*He is gaining or losing excessive weight for no reason
*His muscle condition changes while his work-out regimen does not
*Does his skin seem slack, firm, or supple?
All of these things relate to the Earth element guiding them through the “harvest” of the year, laying away reserves of energy and physically bulking-up to keep them warm and protected through the seasons ahead. Make the transition easier for them and you by scheduling an appointment today!
Lu will be assisting the Sporthorses at the High Desert Classics in Bend from July 21-27. Are you on her list??? Contact her by phone @ 406.581.1175 to schedule a time slot.

Smoke - bath day
“Smoke” is a 2002 registered American Paint Horse gelding sired by China Doc (World Champion) with many NCHA money earners on his dam’s side. He is a Bay/Overo gelding that has been a great trail horse for the last few years. He handles nicely, stopping on a dime. He has been ridden in high mountain trails and has had lots of outside miles. Initial breeder found him to be super cowy and show talent for cutting and done some roping – although he has had no formal training. He is gentle, kind and level headed. Current owner is looking for a good home that can use him to his full potential! He has been barefoot with little to no issues since last year. $3,000
