Equine Therapeutic Services
Equine Acupressure
Equine acupressure sessions last from 30 to 120 minutes and involve both evaluation of the horse and hands-on treatment. Lu will focus on the overall well-being of the horse, along with responding to specific areas indicated during pre-session consult with the equine care-giver/owner. In these sessions, Lu uses acupoint selection to respond to the current presenting concern.
Lu is a nationally certified equine acupressure practitioner and member of the National Board of Certification for Animal Acupressure & Massage (www.NBCAAM.org).
Oriental Medical Massage (Tui Na)
Based on the original Chinese Meridian Massage, Tui Na, pronounced “Tway” with a long “a” sound and “Nah,” is one of the five branches of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) which also includes acupressure/acupuncture, herbal therapy, food therapy, and qi gong (exercise).
Tui Na techniques, along with acu-points and meridians, have been used since 2700 B.C. to prevent and treat disease and injury. The use of Tui Na, along with limb stretching and manipulation, can help to regulate the body’s systems, promote circulation, and strengthen the immune system. The techniques can be applied in musculoskeletal conditions, arthritis, peripheral nerve disorders, atrophy, and some internal conditions.
Equine Sport Massage Therapy
Massage through Garnas Equine is Equine Sports Massage Therapy which involves soft tissue manipulation, allowing for myofacial release and improved somatic function. In short, this means that Lu will help your horse utilize its body to its fullest potential and encourage correct muscle usage.

Natural Hoof Care
Lu is a natural performance hoof care specialist. Essentially, Lu starts by removing the horses shoes and restoring the horse’s natural barefoot capabilities. This often involves a transition period that can last a number of months, whereby the hoof becomes more resilient, more durable and more functional. During this period of time, Lu works closely with farriers and veterinarians to find the most efficient balance for each horse, creating sound and strong hooves.
Long term benefits include: greater limb circulation, improved movement, and lifelong ease of hoof care management. High Performance “barefootedness” is an alternative to horseshoeing.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES
Nutritional Consulting
What you put into your horse determines what you get out. Garnas Equine provides nutritional program evaluations to ensure your feed is meeting your horse’s nutritional demands to make sure your food is healing, not starving the transition process. Lu will evaluate your horse and suggest a customized nutrition program – supplemental feed, vitamins, and herbal options – to ensure that your horse is operating at his peak potential. Garnas Equine works with your veterinarian during the process, especially if your horse has “special needs.”
Pricing:
Initial consultation & research: $50.00 (forage testing charged separately)
Follow-up research/visits: $30.00 per hour
Saddle-Fitting
Saddle-fitting, both English and Western, is an important part of a horse’s ability to function properly, regardless of discipline. Saddles are not always the answer to a horse’s “stubborn” attitude, nor are they always to be blamed for a sore-backed horse. Conformational, behavioral, and nutritional issues can create problems without any warning. Lu hopes that through correct saddle fitting and padding, the issue of saddle soreness can be eliminated and the natural capabilities of horse and rider can be experienced…or at least, one aspect of the “attitude equation” is removed.
Pricing:
$40.00 per hour. It is important to note that saddle fitting requires an both a standing and an under-saddle evaluation and normally last just over an hour.
All prices are subject to change.
Garnas Equine accepts major credit cards.
